Baseball Game Preview: Benet Academy Redwings vs. St. Laurence Vikings

The Benet Academy Redwings will face off against the St. Laurence Vikings at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Benet Academy sitting on seven straight wins and St. Laurence on ten.

Benet Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with an 11-6 victory over Cary-Grove.

Benet Academy got a big performance out of Josh Gugora, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Rooney, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, St. Laurence faced Triad in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Vikings came out on top against the Knights by a score of 11-6. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Vikings considering their two-run performance the game before.

Jimmy Benson tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Connor Marino, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Ryan Lotus, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

St. Laurence pushed their record up to 36-5 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Benet Academy, their record is now 26-12.
