Softball Game Preview: Plum Mustangs vs. Mars Fightin' Planets

The Plum Mustangs will square off against the Mars Fightin' Planets at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Plum is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.4 runs per game this season.

On Saturday, Plum was able to grind out a solid victory over West Mifflin, taking the game 8-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

The team relied heavily on Jaiden Gentile, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Gia Tavella was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Mars was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against South Fayette, falling 20-3.

Abby Robinson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

Plum's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Mars, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Mars' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Plum hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .411. It's a different story for Mars, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain Plum's hitters?

Everything went Plum's way against Mars in their previous matchup back in May of 2017, as Plum made off with a 21-9 victory. Does Plum have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
