Volleyball Recap: Clear Lake's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Clear Lake had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Upper Lake Cougars on Thursday. This was a revenge game for the Cardinals: when they faced off against the Cougars back in August, they had to take a 2-0 loss.

While Clear Lake might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Upper Lake scored at least 20 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22.

Faith McIntire paced Clear Lake's offense, picking up 15 kills. McIntire got some help from Jazmin Wiebusch and her 39 assists. Wiebusch was also solid from the service line: she led the team with five aces.

Camila Martin and Aimee Schaefers certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Martin had 15 digs and three aces, while Schaefers had 15 kills, 11 blocks, nine digs, and two aces. Schaefers is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now had two or more in each of the last 31 games she's played dating back to last season. Kiri Casperson also deserves some recognition as she had her first kills of the season.

The win got Clear Lake back to even at 5-5. As for Upper Lake, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season.

Coincidentally, Clear Lake and Upper Lake will both be playing Cloverdale the next time they take the court. The Cougars will host the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Cardinals will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
