Basketball Game Preview: Pyramid Lake Lakers vs. Sage Ridge Scorpions

Pyramid Lake is a perfect 10-0 against Sage Ridge since February of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Pyramid Lake Lakers will look to defend their home court against the Sage Ridge Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Sage Ridge will be up against a hot Pyramid Lake squad: the team just extended their winning streak to 13. Pyramid Lake breezed past Virginia City to the tune of 72-19 on Saturday. Given the Lakers' advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Muckers are ranked 63rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kaitlin Mandell continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 9 for 19 on her way to 20 points and five steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Lara, who went 5 of 6 to rack up 10 points and four steals.

Pyramid Lake was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Virginia City only posted one assist.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Sage Ridge on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Mineral County out of the water with a 63-10 final score. The Scorpions haven't had any issues with the Serpents recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Pyramid Lake's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.4 points over those games. As for Sage Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.
