            Football Recap: Permian Panthers vs. Midland Legacy Rebels        
        
		
        
        
            Permian extended their winning streak  to seven  on Friday, bumping them up to 7-1. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with  a  51-48  win over the Midland Legacy Rebels. The Panthers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most  points they've scored all season.

 Gavin Black had another great game (as  he tends to do), rushing for 320 yards and four  touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. With that strong performance,  he is now averaging an impressive 111.1  rushing yards per game. Permian also got help from  Cayden Hernandez, who showed off his sure hands for 89  receiving yards.
 They were just one part of a punishing run game: Permian was unstoppable on the ground and  finished the game with 342  rushing yards. That's the most  rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
As for Midland Legacy, their  loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest  defeat they have suffered  against Permian since November 8, 2019.
 Midland Legacy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was   Ja'Braylen Anders, who picked up 173 receiving yards and one  score. Anders' longest reception was for an incredible 72 yards. Another player making a difference was  Hayes Hamm, who rushed for 55 yards and a pair of  TDs.
 Both  squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming  games. Permian will face off against Frenship at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least 31  points  in their last six contests. As for Midland Legacy, they will square off against Midland at 7:30  p.m.  on Friday. The Rebels will be up against the Bulldogs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33.43  points per  matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
