Recap: Crete Cardinals vs. Gering Bulldogs
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Skutt Catholic, the Crete Cardinals were happy to have found some success on Friday. They strolled past Gering with points to spare, taking the game 66-50. That's another feather in the cap for Crete, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Amelia Hohlen continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 27 points along with five steals. Those 27 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Camry Draeger, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Despite the loss, Gering saw an underclassman step up: Jacelyn Brown scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Makenzie Todd was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Gering were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crete only racked up 18 assists.
Crete's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Gering, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
Crete's road trip will continue as they head out to face Scottsbluff on January 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Scottsbluff is ranked 82nd, while Crete is ranked 72nd). As for Gering, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Waverly at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Waverly is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54 points per game.
