Volleyball Recap: Avon Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Avon unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Westfield Shamrocks on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The Orioles have struggled against the Shamrocks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-9, 25-5.

Westfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Evan Huhn led the charge by getting 11 assists and five digs. Xavier Lyon also deserves some recognition as he had his first block of the season.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Westfield, bringing their record up to 8-2.

Avon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Noblesville on the 3rd. As for Westfield, they have also already played their next game, a 3-0 win against Franklin Central on the 3rd.
