Softball Game Preview: Elk Grove Thundering Herd vs. Sheldon Huskies

The Elk Grove Thundering Herd will take on the Sheldon Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Elk Grove 3.6, Sheldon 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Elk Grove is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Laguna Creek with a sharp 13-1 win on Wednesday. The victory was nothing new for the Thundering Herd as they're now sitting on five straight.

The team relied heavily on Ryann Wolfe, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Jadyn Magnuson was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Wolfe wasn't the only one making solid contact: Elk Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. The Thundering Herd are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, while Sheldon put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Pleasant Grove. The Huskies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over the Eagles. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Huskies.

The result came thanks to Micah Kennedy's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Sheldon's victory was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nicole Camacho-Vasquez, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Sheldon pushed their record up to 13-5-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Elk Grove, their win bumped their record up to 10-6.
