Recap: Grand Junction Tigers vs. Fruita Monument Wildcats

The Grand Junction Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their seventh straight defeat. They took a serious blow against Fruita Monument, falling 57-17. While losing is never fun, Grand Junction can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 196th, while Fruita Monument is ranked 28th).

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Grand Junction struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Fruita Monument pulled down 17 offensive rebounds.

Fruita Monument was led to victory by Olivia Campbell and Addison Eyre. Campbell scored 16 points along with two steals, while Eyre dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mckenzie Mason, who scored eight points along with three steals.

Grand Junction dropped their record down to 4-13 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.1 points per game. As for Fruita Monument, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-2.

Grand Junction will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Eagle Valley at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Grand Junction focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 on Tuesday. As for Fruita Monument, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Grand Junction Central at 5:30 p.m. Grand Junction Central will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Fruita Monument surely won't give up without a fight.
