Softball Recap: Chase Finds Home Field Redemption Against Maple Grove

There's no place like home for Chase, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They blew past the Maple Grove Red Dragons 17-3 on Tuesday. With that victory, the Trojans brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Myra Beaver made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Montana Honeycutt and A'Mya Phillips did most of the damage at the plate: Honeycutt went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Phillips went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Phillips has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mikeala Shahan, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Chase was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Chase pushed their record up to 9-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Maple Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Chase will challenge Polk County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Maple Grove, they are taking a road trip to square off against Westfield at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The contest will give the Red Dragons their first taste of in-conference action this season.
