Basketball Recap: Austin Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Austin had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 65-59 victory over the Milby Buffs on Saturday. This was a revenge game for the Mustangs: when they faced off against the Buffs back in November of 2024, they had to take a 41-36 defeat.

Milby lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Albert Sample III, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave Sample III a new career-high in rebounds. Delani Pestaina was another key player, going 6 of 10 en route to 16 points.

Austin's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-13. As for Milby, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Austin will venture away from home to take on Waltrip at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Waltrip is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.4 points per game this season. As for Milby, they are taking a road trip to challenge Sterling at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sterling has six straight victories, Milby has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
