Michael Porter Jr. says high school career is over, no Dick’s Nationals for No. 1 Nathan Hale

Fresh off a win in Washington's Class 3A state championship game, Michael Porter Jr. shed some light on whether No. 1-ranked Nathan Hale (Seattle) will participate in Dick's Sporting Goods High School Nationals later this month.

Via Instagram, the 6-foot-10 senior forward said late Saturday night his high school career is over, meaning no trip to New York for the Raiders and disappointment for those hoping to see the Seattle school prove it one more time on the national stage.

Porter scored 27 points and grabbed 17 rebounds against Garfield (Seattle) in Hale's championship game victory.

Headed to the University of Washington next season, Porter averaged 37.0 points and 14.3 rebounds per game on the season. He will participate in the prestigious McDonald's All-American Game on March 29.

What does this mean for high school basketball's mythical national title in 2016-17? At the risk of taking a whole lot of drama out of the next three weeks, it's difficult to envision a scenario where Nathan Hale doesn't finish No. 1.



The Raiders (29-0) won arguably the West Coast's top holiday tournament in the Les Schwab Invitational, dominated one of the nation's toughest high school leagues and beat storied Oak Hill Academy in January at the Spalding Hoophall Classic in Massachusetts.
