Basketball Recap: White Station Takes a Loss

White Station fought the good fight in their overtime game against East Poinsett County on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to the East Poinsett County Warriors. The Spartans have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

White Station's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amare Boothe, who went 7 for 14 on her way to 16 points and five boards. Boothe is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kyndall Reynolds, who posted ten points along with eight rebounds and five assists.

Even though they lost, White Station was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Poinsett County only racked up four assists.

Leading East Poinsett County to victory were Kyla Harston and Allison Gaines. Harston dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards, while Gaines almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. Those nine boards gave Gaines a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Ashcraft, who had nine points.

White Station's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-4. As for East Poinsett County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-8.

White Station will challenge Memphis East at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Memphis East will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something White Station surely won't give up without a fight. As for East Poinsett County, they will take on Corning at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
