Baseball Game Preview: South Sumter Raiders vs. Trinity Catholic Celtics

The South Sumter Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Trinity Catholic Celtics at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Trinity Catholic took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on South Sumter, who comes in off a win.

South Sumter was handed a nine-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene last Thursday. They had just enough and edged out South Lake 6-4.

The team relied heavily on Gabe Sabilona, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. Those triples marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Ismael Rodriguez, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Trinity Catholic fell victim to Citrus and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hurricanes. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Celtics were not able to get on the board.

Trinity Catholic also got a good showing from Jay Carter, who struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Carter has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

South Sumter pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Trinity Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.

South Sumter couldn't quite get it done against Trinity Catholic when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as they fell 7-4. Can South Sumter avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
