Softball Recap: Iola Find Success

While Iola's win against Milano wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs skirted past the Eagles 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since April 11, 2025.

Shaylee McKown made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. McKown was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, Iola let Kylan Thomas and Rylee Goodney run wild. Thomas went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Goodney went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Maddie Reed also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Iola and bumps their season record up to 7-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for Milano, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-19.

Iola has already played their next contest (against Somerville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Milano will be paying especially close attention to the Bulldogs' matchup: after the Bulldogs face off against the Yeguas, they'll take on Milano again at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
