Preview: Dilley Wolves vs. Crystal City Javelinas
Dilley is 0-10 against Crystal City since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Dilley Wolves will head out on the road to square off against the Crystal City Javelinas at 7:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Dilley has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Crystal City will arrive with four straight victories.
While Dilley couldn't quite beat Cotulla on Friday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 26-point defeat they were dealt on Tuesday. Dilley fell just short of Cotulla by a score of 54-52. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Dilley has suffered yet this season.
Meanwhile, even though Lytle scored an imposing 62 points on Friday, Crystal City still came out on top. Crystal City took their match against Lytle 72-62.
Crystal City's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dakota Rivera, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rivera has scored all season. Christopher Mena was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Dilley has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Crystal City, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-11 record this season.
Dilley was taken down by Crystal City 109-49 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Dilley was down 58-26.
