Basketball Game Preview: Glenelg Gladiators vs. Meade Mustangs

The Glenelg Gladiators and the Meade Mustangs will round out the year against one another at at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Glenelg is looking for their season's first win.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 65-38, which was the final score in Glenelg's tilt against Mt. Hebron on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Meade was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 62-56 to South River. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Seahawks: they've now lost four in a row.

Glenelg will need focus on slowing down Arouna Soumaoro, one of several Meade players who made an impact when they last played. He dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Those 16 points gave Soumaoro a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Keon Scott, who went 7 of 17 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Meade smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Meade now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Glenelg, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Things could have been worse for Glenelg, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 65-47 loss to Meade in their previous meeting back in February of 2016. Thankfully for Glenelg, Tristan Easton (who posted 17 points in addition to seven boards and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
