Baseball Recap: Marcellus Victorious

Marcellus got their first taste of in-conference action on Tuesday and they started things off strong. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Solvay Bearcats 8-7. This was a revenge game for the Mustangs: when they faced off against the Bearcats two weeks ago, they had to take a 3-2 defeat.

Gavin Foy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Marcellus is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-5 otherwise. Foy was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025.

In other batting news, Tyler Mattison was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Waterman, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Marcellus pushed their record up to 3-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Solvay, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-3.

Coming up, Marcellus will face off against Chittenango at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Solvay, they will square off against Skaneateles at 5:00 p.m. on May 7.
