Baseball Recap: Newton Comes Up Short

Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Pollok Central Bulldogs, falling 9-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 16-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Newton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joe Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Smith brought in this season.

Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Pollok Central, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-10-1.

Newton and Pollok Central could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Newton (ranked 1134th) will meet Central Heights (ranked 138th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Newton has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. Meanwhile, Pollok Central will challenge Diboll at 7:00 p.m. on Friday down 781 places (926 vs. 145).
