Baseball Game Preview: West Haven Blue Devils vs. Hand Tigers

West Haven hasn't had much luck against Hand recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Blue Devils will head out to square off against the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. West Haven will be strutting in after a win while Hand will be coming in after a defeat.

On Friday, West Haven made easy work of East Haven and carried off a 10-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blue Devils.

Jose Padilla made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brady Price, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Colin Murray also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

West Haven kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.6.

Meanwhile, Hand didn't have quite enough to beat Guilford on Friday and fell 4-2.

Hand has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for West Haven, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

West Haven couldn't quite finish off Hand in their previous matchup back in April and fell 4-2. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
