Softball Game Preview: St. Bernard Saints vs. Bacon Academy Bobcats

The St. Bernard Saints are taking a road trip to face off against the Bacon Academy Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for St. Bernard's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Woodstock Academy on Wednesday. The game marked the first time this year in which the Saints were not able to get on the board.

Anabelle Wenzel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, St. Bernard saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Scribner, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Bacon Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 8-5 to RHAM.

This is the second loss in a row for St. Bernard and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Bacon Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Everything went St. Bernard's way against Bacon Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2019, as St. Bernard made off with a 14-7 win. Will the Saints repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
