Softball Recap: Benton Central Bison vs. Logansport Berries
Benton Central had lost eight straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 6-19 to make it nine. They lost 11-0 to the Logansport Berries. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Berries this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 on Saturday.
As for Logansport, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. Considering they have won 12 contests by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
For Logansport's part, they got a great performance from Maddy Baumgardner as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Baumgardner a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Natalee Packard was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Risley, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and five RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Benton Central will head out to challenge Frontier at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.73 runs per game on average), something the Bison will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Logansport, they will head out on the road to face off against West Lafayette at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Berries' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Devils have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
