Currituck County is 9-1 against First Flight since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Nighthawks at 6:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Currituck County has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while First Flight will arrive with seven straight victories.
Currituck County lost 17-1 to Nansemond-Suffolk Academy on Friday.
Currituck County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amelia Cervantes, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while First Flight put up some runs last Thursday, the same can't be said for Pasquotank County. The Nighthawks put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Nighthawks, who have now won seven games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Molly Richards and Kylie Vann did most of the damage at the plate: Richards went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Vann went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Savannah Schnader was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
First Flight's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Currituck County, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Currituck County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .488. However, it's not like First Flight struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Currituck County was able to grind out a solid victory over First Flight when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 10-5. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Nighthawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
