Basketball Recap: Bleckley County Falls Despite Big Games from Kalyria Jones and Ava Jenkins

After flying high against Dublin last Tuesday, Bleckley County came back down to earth. The Bleckley County Royals took a 56-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the East Laurens Falcons on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, with their most recent defeat being a 59-29 loss back in January.

Bleckley County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ava Jenkins, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards, and Kalyria Jones, who posted 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. What's more, Jenkins posted five blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Amiyah Roberts, who scored nine points.

It was another big night for Deanna Lowther, who dropped a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 steals for East Laurens. Lowther has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last ten times she's played. Tytiuna Page also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Bleckley County has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-10 record this season. The win made it two in a row for East Laurens and bumps their season record up to 17-5.

Bleckley County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 57-47 defeat against Academy for Classical Education on the 18th. As for East Laurens, they have also already played their next match, a 66-52 victory against Central on the 14th.
