Softball Recap: White River Makes It Three in a Row on the Road

White River hadn't done well against Orting recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Hornets walked away with an 18-14 victory over the Cardinals. This was payback for the Hornets, who suffered a 7-6 loss the last time these two teams met.

Laken Elvig made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kennedy Selander, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Grace Wolff was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

White River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

White River's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.0 runs over those games. As for Orting, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-7.

Coming up, White River will head out to square off against Enumclaw at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Enumclaw will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something White River surely won't give up without a fight. As for Orting, they will be playing at home against Clover Park at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals are facing the Timberwolves at the right time seeing as the Timberwolves are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
