Basketball Recap: Ithaca Little Red vs. Elmira Express
This season hasn't been kind to the Ithaca Little Red, who are still winless after their sixth contest. They fell to Elmira 57-52. Ithaca lost against the Express in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 58-29 score last time.
It was another big night for Mariah Matias, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 21 rebounds for Elmira. Matias hasn't dropped below ten rebounds for 13 straight games. Another player making a difference was Laila Burchard, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Ithaca dropped their record down to 0-6 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Elmira, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ithaca will take on the Blue Raiders at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Horseheads is coming into the game hot, having won their last ten games. As for Elmira, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Patriots at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in New York (Binghamton is ranked 254th, while the Express are ranked 238th).
