Basketball Recap: Muncie Central Triumphs

Muncie Central took a 38-point loss the last time they faced off against New Castle, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Muncie Central Bearcats narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the New Castle Trojans 60-57. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bearcats have posted against the Trojans since February 24, 2017.

Muncie Central found their leader in freshman Carlos Echols, who went 6-for-9 en route to 16 points and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Echols has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Shemar Taylor, who shot 56% from the field on his way to 13 points.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Landon Thompson, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 16 points and seven rebounds. Thompson is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 58% in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cade Logston, who posted eight points and seven assists.

The win made it two in a row for Muncie Central and bumps their season record up to 8-15. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points over those games. As for New Castle, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.

As of now, neither Muncie Central nor New Castle have any future games scheduled.
