Baseball Game Preview: SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars vs. West Craven Eagles

For the second straight game, SouthWest Edgecombe will face off against West Craven. The Cougars will welcome the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. SouthWest Edgecombe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

SouthWest Edgecombe fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against West Craven on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 2-1. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by just one run.

Jaelyn McLean put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one stolen base.

McLean wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Logan Webb, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

The victory (which was West Craven's fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-12. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-7 record this season.
