Softball Recap: Rocky River Takes a Loss

Rocky River dropped their record down to 6-4 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 11-1 to the Buckeye Bucks. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Pirates couldn't push the score so high this time.

Rocky River saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Creech, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

As for Buckeye, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Buckeye's side, LaRyssa Hartshorn looked comfortable as she tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hartshorn has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Faith Shaw was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sarah Michaels, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rocky River will face off against Valley Forge at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Buckeye, they will square off against Westlake at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bucks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Demons have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
