Softball Recap: Carl Hayden Community Takes a Loss

Carl Hayden Community extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 5-12 in the process. They lost 21-11 to the Glendale Cardinals. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

As for Glendale, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.1 runs over those games.

For Glendale's part, Janessa Gabaldon Lucero was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. Gabaldon Lucero was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Unique Medina, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Halo Flores, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Carl Hayden Community wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 18-8 victory against Dysart on the 14th. As for Glendale, they have also already played their next game, a 4-0 loss against Independence on the 15th.
