Baseball Recap: Palatka's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Palatka barely beat Father Lopez the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Palatka Panthers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Father Lopez Green Wave a 9-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by six runs or more this season.

Not much got past Paxton Sweat, who gave up just four hits to keep Father Lopez off the board. The dominant performance also gave Sweat a new career-low in walks (zero).

At the plate, Cason Thomas was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Palatka is 3-1 when Thomas posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Morgan Wiggs was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

The victory snapped Palatka's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-7 record. As for Father Lopez, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-9.

Looking ahead, Palatka will take on Menendez at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Palatka will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Father Lopez, they will square off against DeLand at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
