Football Game Preview: Hughson Huskies vs. Sonora Wildcats + How To Watch

The Hughson Huskies will venture away from home to face off against the Sonora Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Hughson barely beat Escalon the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Huskies put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 29-6 victory on Friday.

Hughson found their leader in freshman Hudson Baldwin, who threw for 217 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes.

Hughson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Tristan Benham and Titus Beers.

Meanwhile, Sonora put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 22-21 W against Hilmar. Those 22 points were actually the fewest the Wildcats have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Sonora's win came from a few key players Hughson will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Steven Morfoot, who picked up 67 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 52 yards on only five carries. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making eight total tackles and defending four passes. Sonora also got a significant boost from Steven Olley II, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 94 yards.

Sonora's run defense was locked in: Hilmar could only muster 2.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Brody Speer for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sonora didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.5.

Hughson's record now sits at 6-1. As for Sonora, their record is now 7-0.

Hughson barely slipped by Sonora in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 52-51. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
