Softball Recap: Hilliard Takes a Loss

Hilliard was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 5-4 to the Fernandina Beach Pirates, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-2 back in March.

Kaylee Hern was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Rileigh King, who went 3-for-4 with one double.

Hilliard's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Fernandina Beach, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-9.

Looking ahead, Hilliard will face off against Bishop Snyder at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Red Flashes' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Fernandina Beach, they will take on Fletcher at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
