Basketball Recap: Paul Bishop Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Daniel

Daniel typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Blue Ridge proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 61-50 win over the Daniel Lions. This was a revenge game for the Fighting Tigers: when they faced off against the Lions back in January, they had to take a 62-55 defeat.

Blue Ridge got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Paul Bishop out in front who went 7-for-13 to rack up 19 points and six boards. Bishop's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Andrew Gray, who posted six points along with nine assists and six rebounds.

Blue Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 16 consecutive matchups.

Daniel's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tristyn Carrington, who almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine boards. Carrington is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games he's played. Grayson Clary was another key player, putting up eight points and eight rebounds.

Blue Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points over those games. As for Daniel, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Blue Ridge will take on Greer at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Greer will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Blue Ridge surely won't give up without a fight. As for Daniel, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Lions challenge the Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Seneca is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.7 points per game this season.
