Football Recap: Pomeroy Piles Up the Points Against Dayton

Pomeroy won against Waitsburg last Friday with 80 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Pirates really took it to the Dayton Bulldogs for the full four quarters, racking up an 80-20 victory. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Kyzer Herres and Rory McKeirnan. Herres rushed for 264 yards and five touchdowns on only 12 carries while McKeirnan rushed for 144 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries. Those 144 rushing yards gave McKeirnan a new career-high. Treyton Kimble was another key player, gaining 108 total yards and a touchdown.

Pomeroy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 509 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 240 rushing yards in six consecutive games.

Pomeroy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Wyatt Huwe.

Pomeroy's record now sits at 8-0. As for Dayton, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Coming up, Pomeroy will face off against DeSales at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Pirates will need to watch out since the Irish have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Dayton, they will venture away from home to take on Yakama Nation Tribal at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 55.57 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
