Preview: Laney Buccaneers vs. North Brunswick Scorpions
Laney is 8-2 against North Brunswick since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Laney Buccaneers will look to defend their home court against the North Brunswick Scorpions at 7:30 p.m. Laney will be looking to keep their ten-game home win streak alive.
Laney posted their biggest win since December 8, 2023 on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 64-41 margin over Topsail. Given Laney's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Topsail is ranked 408th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hezron Driver was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaquan Bowen, who scored seven points along with 14 rebounds.
Even though North Brunswick has not done well against Ashley recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. North Brunswick took down Ashley 67-53. The win made it back-to-back wins for North Brunswick.
Laney's win bumped their record up to 13-1. As for North Brunswick, their win bumped their record up to 13-3.
Laney was able to grind out a solid win over North Brunswick when the teams last played back in January of 2023, winning 76-65. Will Laney repeat their success, or does North Brunswick have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
