Softball Recap: Hartford Falls Short Against Ranked Otter Valley

Hartford faced Otter Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Hurricanes took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Otters. Hurricanes fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Otters since on Friday.

Serenitee Martel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hartford saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emmy Whitney, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Charlotte Polidor was another, going 2-for-3 with one run.

Hartford's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Otter Valley, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-3.

The future could be bright for both Hartford and Otter Valley: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Hurricanes will try to hand Springfield their sixth-straight loss when the two meet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Otter Valley will look to extend Harwood's five-game losing streak when they meet at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
