Basketball Recap: Thursday's Defeat Ends Deshler's Winning Streak

After a string of four wins, Deshler's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 63-53 to the Shelton Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Dragons of the 67-44 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Several Dragons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Easton Nash, who posted 24 points and six rebounds. Nash's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Carson Sieber, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards.

Shelton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ben Myers, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 12 points in addition to eight boards and six assists. What's more, Myers also racked up three blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Jaxson Ohlman, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 22 points.

Deshler's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Shelton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.

Deshler didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-26 loss against Thayer Central on the 11th. As for Shelton, they will welcome Arcadia/Loup City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Shelton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
