Baseball Game Preview: Morrison Mustangs vs. Eastland Cougars

The Morrison Mustangs will challenge the Eastland Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Morrison is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Morrison needed a bit of extra time to put away Amboy. They came out on top against the Clippers by a score of 14-10. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their two-run performance the match before.

Kaleb Schroeder made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Collin Renkes was a standout: he went 3-for-6 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Morrison is undefeated when Renkes posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Noah Robbins, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.

Morrison was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Eastland entered their tilt with Fulton on Saturday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Steamers 5-3.

Morrison has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Eastland, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
