Basketball Recap: Mainland Comes Up Short

Mainland lost against New Smyrna Beach back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Mainland Buccaneers were outmatched by the New Smyrna Beach Barracudas and fell 70-13. While losing is never fun, the Buccaneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Barracudas are ranked 16th).

New Smyrna Beach's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Iniya Reddicks led the charge by going 8 of 13 on her way to 18 points and five steals. Reddicks is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Olivia Olson, who went 7 for 16 en route to 21 points.

Mainland's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for New Smyrna Beach, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-5.

Mainland has already played their next match (against Tournament Opponent), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. New Smyrna Beach will be taking part in a tournament against Spruce Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. New Smyrna Beach is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.1 points per game this season.
