Basketball Recap: St. John Paul II Takes a Loss + How To Watch

St. John Paul II lost against Aucilla Christian back in January of 2018 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Panthers were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 31-30 to the Warriors. While the Panthers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Warriors 10-6 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why St. John Paul II lost, don't look at Aliyah Medrano. Despite the final result, she posted 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Medrano has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Sanai Smallwood also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Aucilla Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Georgia Lindsey, who scored 16 points and eight boards. Those 16 points gave Lindsey a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Avery Emerick, who earned seven points in addition to 13 rebounds and five assists.

St. John Paul II now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Aucilla Christian, their victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. John Paul II will welcome North Florida Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The contest will give the Panthers their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Aucilla Christian, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Branford at 4:00 p.m.
