Softball Recap: DeKalb Gets the Win

DeKalb's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Stillman Valley Cardinals. While the Barbs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Cassidy Cavazos made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Cavazos was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

In other batting news, Isabel Aranda and Hazel Montavon did most of the damage at the plate: Aranda scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Montavon scored a run while going 2-for-3.

DeKalb was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

DeKalb's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Stillman Valley, they moved to 5-3 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coming up, DeKalb will challenge Waubonsie Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Barbs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Stillman Valley, they will square off against Dixon at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
