Mount Miguel is 0-9 against Steele Canyon since March of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Matadors will venture away from home to take on the Cougars at 4:00 p.m.
Mount Miguel is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They lost 9-2 to Santana.
Mount Miguel got a good showing from Rene Lopez, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Lopez a new career-low.
On the hitting side, Mount Miguel saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Fonzy Nunez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.
Meanwhile, while Steele Canyon put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for El Cajon Valley. The Cougars blew past the Braves 19-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Gavin Caha made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Caha was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs.
In other batting news, Steele Canyon let Tommy Rimoldi and Johann Garcia run wild. Rimoldi went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Garcia went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Rimoldi has become a key player for Steele Canyon: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-12 otherwise. Logan Page also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Steele Canyon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matches.
Mount Miguel's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Steele Canyon, their record now sits at 8-13.
Mount Miguel might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from Steele Canyon when the teams last played back in March of 2019. Can the Matadors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
