Baseball Recap: Marion Comes Up Short

Marion extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-9-1 in the process. They lost 8-2 to the Tazewell Bulldogs. The Scarlet Hurricanes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Marion saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Whitt, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Whitt is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

As for Tazewell, their record is now 3-6. That six run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

On Tazewell's side, Alex Compton made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Compton also allowed no hits, which is notable because Tazewell is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 1-5 otherwise. Compton was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Walker Patterson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Mullins, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Marion will face off against rival Graham at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Tazewell is set to take on their familiar foe Lebanon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
