NaVorro Bowman Jr. is off to a great start in his sophomore season of high school basketball at Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.).

The 6-foot-2 point guard is the son of four-time first team All-Pro NaVorro Bowman Sr., who played linebacker with the San Francisco 49ers and is now linebackers coach for the Los Angeles Charges.

The younger Bowman has helped Notre Dame jump out to a 9-0 record by scoring in double figures of every game.

Bowman Jr. is averaging 16.4 points per game. In a 78-48 win over Mater Dei Catholic (Chula Vista) last week, he scored a career-high 26 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists.

His father graduated from Suitland (Forestville, Md.) in 2006 where he excelled in basketball and football before becoming an All-American at Penn State and being selected by the 49ers in the 2010 NFL Draft. Under head coach Jim Harbaugh, Bowman had sacks in two NFC Championship games.

Bowman Sr. started coaching in 2023 as a defensive analyst at Maryland. Harbaugh brought him on to his staff with the Chargers and the family moved to Southern California.

The season heats up for Notre Dame on Wednesday at the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas. The Knights open against Basha (Chandler, Ariz.) and then will play Timpview (Provo, Utah) or St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia, Pa.) on Thursday.
