Recap: Midlands STEM Charter Mavericks vs. Richard Winn Academy Eagles
The Midlands STEM Charter Mavericks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Richard Winn Academy 67-38. While losing is never fun, Midlands STEM Charter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 294th, while Richard Winn Academy is ranked 77th).
Richard Winn Academy was led to victory by Charlie Bonds and Drew Spires. Bonds scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Spires scored 18 points along with five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Spires has scored at least 25% of Richard Winn Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Miller Stuck, who scored six points along with five assists and three steals.
Midlands STEM Charter bumped their record down to 0-3 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Richard Winn Academy, their win bumped their record up to 7-0-1.
Midlands STEM Charter is on the road again on Friday and play against Cambridge Academy at 1:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Hopefully Cambridge Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday. Richard Winn Academy will finish 2023 at home by hosting Ragin Prep Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Ragin Prep Christian Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
