Football Recap: Oxford Piles Up the Points Against Lafayette

Oxford extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 3-0. They blew past the Lafayette Commodores 63-20. The Chargers pushed the score to 49-20 by the end of the third, a deficit the Commodores had little chance of recovering from.

Drew Dean had an outrageously good game as he threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (164.6). Kingston Gregory was another key player, picking up 159 receiving yards.

As for Lafayette, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Oxford is ranked 13th).

Luke Anderson and Kamaron Pritchard certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Anderson rushed for 90 yards and one score, while Pritchard rushed for 57 yards and a pair of TDs. Anderson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 78-yard run.

Coming up, Oxford will square off against Tupelo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lafayette, they will challenge Lewisburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
