Softball Recap: Chittenango Comes Up Short

Chittenango extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 13-4 in the process. They fell 10-6 to the Marcellus Mustangs. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Bears, who until this game were averaging 2.65 runs allowed.

Alivia Cavotta made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. MacKenna Palko was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Marcellus, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 13-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

On Marcellus' side, Kendall LaManche made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. LaManche has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Carly Sears was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jordan O'Connor, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chittenango will take on Cicero-North Syracuse at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Marcellus, they will square off against Solvay at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
