Baseball Preview: Walnut Wildcats vs. Thrasher Rebels
The Walnut Wildcats will head out to face off against the Thrasher Rebels at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Walnut barely beat Potts Camp the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Walnut blew past Potts Camp 19-0 on Tuesday. The Wildcats not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 21, 2024.
Meanwhile, Thrasher had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 13-8 victory over the Eagles. While the Rebels didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Ryan Tate was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5. He is becoming a predictor of Thrasher's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Hunter Pace was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.
Walnut moved to 2-5 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Thrasher, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
