Softball Game Preview: Eagle Mountain Knights vs. Castleberry Lions

The Eagle Mountain Knights are taking a road trip to challenge the Castleberry Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Eagle Mountain is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.

Eagle Mountain's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Bridgeport as they made off with a 17-0 victory.

Ashlyn Eggleton was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Eagle Mountain got a massive performance out of Zoe Hawthorne, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Hawthorne a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Wilson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three runs, and one RBI.

Eagle Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Castleberry lost 11-5 to Decatur on Monday.

Eagle Mountain pushed their record up to 12-11-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Castleberry, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 15 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-17-1 record this season.

Eagle Mountain took their win against Castleberry in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 16-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
